October 4, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is proud to announce it has received full national league sanctioning from the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
The UPSL now has full voting rights within USASA as one of only two nationally-sanctioned leagues in the United States, and is currently seeking eight annual slots for the first round of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup pursuant to its status.
United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, “Today’s national sanctioning announcement is a long time coming for our league. This moment has required a major commitment from all our UPSL clubs, players, coaches, referees, league administrators, management and staff, and more than eight years to achieve. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the UPSL, we are excited today for all our club members whom have stuck together on this journey and embraced each other to support and deliver the dream of a better future for lower tier soccer in America. Now, as a full fledged and approved, nationally-sanctioned USASA stakeholder, our next step is to pursue and finalize securing U.S. Open Cup slots that are allotted to recognized and approved nationally-sanctioned leagues. I would personally like to thank USASA, and its President John Motta and Vice President Duncan Riddle, for all their support over the years in assisting us toward achieving this milestone for the betterment of the game in the United States. We look forward to working closely with USASA and U.S. Soccer for years to come.”
The UPSL’s national sanctioning was approved at the USASA’s 2019 Annual General Meeting in Palm Spring (Calif.) on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019.
USASA Executive Director Duncan Riddle said, “Following our AGM in Palm Springs I can confirm that the UPSL is now recognized by USASA as a National League. This is in recognition for the rapid growth of the league over the past three years.”
The USASA is the official governing body of adult soccer in the United States. The organization consists of 54 state associations, three national men’s leagues and a number of state and regional leagues.
